Tobias Dienlin ist seit September 2020 am Institut für Kommunikationswissenschaft als Assistenz Professor für Interaktive Kommunikation. Zuvor arbeitete Tobias Dienlin an der Universität Hohenheim, wo er 2017 zum Thema "The Psychology of Privacy" promovierte. Von 2006 bis 2012 studierte Tobias Dienlin Psychologie an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz.

Tobias Dienlin reiste für Forschungsaufenthalte an die Ohio State University in Columbus und an die University of California in Santa Barbara. Während der Promotion wurde Tobias Dienlin als Promotionsstipendiat von der Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes gefördert. 

Inhaltlich forscht Tobias Dienlin rund um das Thema Privatheit und Wohlbefinden im Kontext der Nutzung neuer sozialer Medien. Als Querschnittsthema interessiert sich Tobias Dienlin ebenso für den Bereich Open Science.
