New Erasmus+ project: The EuroCivic Lab Project

06.12.2024

Starting December 1, an international consortium involving Katharine Sarikakis as PI for the Viennese part project has been working on an European Union-funded Erasmus+ project.

The EuroCivic Lab project aims to enhance teachers' training on European identity formation practices and enrich their knowledge of innovative educational methodologies. The project helps the school community to support a renewed European identity that can respond to any challenges that the EU faces, with the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) as its dimensions, and thus addressing critical issues of humanity, as well as enhancing the teaching capacities and skills of teachers through engaging ways and interactive resources.

There will be practical training provided for teachers in EU citizenship education, and the integration of European identity education in schools. Hence, it will encourage school communities to take an active role in reinforcing common European values. It will also introduce innovative educational practices such as EU citizenship education, social activism and the Living Lab methodology, benefiting national education systems.

The EuroCivic Lab Project: Strengthening European Identity and Citizenship through SDGs, Social Activism and Living Labs Methodology in School Education is being carried out by a consortium of five partners, coordinated by the Colegio Salesianos do Porto, Portugal. At our department, Katharine Sarikakis will be the principal investigator for the University of Vienna. In total, a budget of € 250.000 is available to the consortium, of which € 50.800 are to be allocated to Vienna. Further detailed information about the project can be obtained here.
