Daniel Nölleke new Junior Professor at German Sport University Cologne

In Cologne, he will be Professor of Sport Journalism and Public Relations.

We are very proud to announce that Daniel, who has been a postdoc within Folker Hanusch's Journalism Studies Center since February 2017, was offered a position as Junior Professor at the German Sport University Cologne and will therefore join the Institute for Communication and Media Research from April 1, 2022. At his new institute, Daniel will offer courses on sports communication and intensify his research on the importance of sports journalism in digital media environments. His research focus will tie in closely with the project From the Core to the Periphery: Frontiers of Journalism (scheduled to start in September 2022 and funded by the Austrian Science Fund – FWF), which he has acquired at our department as co-PI of Folker Hanusch.

Prior to joining our department in Vienna, Daniel completed his master studies as well as his PhD (within the research field of journalism) at the Department of Communication of the University of Münster, Germany. In Münster, he was also working as a pre- and postdoctoral researcher.

During his time at our department, Daniel has worked extensively on the topic of sports communication. He has repeatedly offered seminars on the topic in the Master's program and published his research in edited volumes and scientific journals. In September 2021, he hosted the annual conference of the Media Sport and Sport Communication division of the German Communication Association (DGPuK) at our department. He has been Chair of the ECREA Temporary Working Group "Communication and Sport" since 2019, and a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Sport Communication since 2022.

About the German Sport University Cologne (DSHS): The DSHS is the only university in Germany dedicated exclusively to the subject area of sports and exercise, with a total of around 6.000 students and 1.000 academic and administrative staff members.

Congratulations, dear Daniel!
