The association Friends of the Department of Communication was founded in 1993. During its general assembly on March 2, 2020, Fritz Hausjell was once again voted chairman of the association, with Gerit Götzenbrucker becoming the vice-chair.

The aim of the the association is to deepen and enhance the relations between alumni, students and staff of the Department of Communication, to inform about research activities and furthermore boost the image of communication science and the Department in the public.
