Paul Balluff is a PhD candidate in the capacity of the OPTED project, where he builds an inventory of news sources in Europe, and curates tools for computational text analysis.

Before joining as a PhD, he was a student research assistant at the Vienna Centre for Electoral Research (VieCER), supporting the quantitative analysis of media coverage of the national elections in Austria in 2017 and 2019. After he acquired his B.A. at the University of Würzburg (Germany), he worked four years in the non-profit sector in Hong Kong. He then completed the master programme East Asian Economy and Society (EcoS) at the University of Vienna.
