Event: "Impunity of Murders of Journalists"

On December 11 the event "Impunity of Murders of Journalists", co-organized by our department and the OSCE, took place in Vienna.

The one-day major event entitled "Impunity of Murders of Journalists: A Challenge to Freedom of the Media" was organized in cooperation between the OSCE Representative of Freedom of the Media, Harlem Désir, and the Media Governance & Industries Research Lab, led by Professor Katharine Sarikakis, in the Hofburg Vienna.

One hundred delegates from civil society and national delegations and professional organisations including the UNESCO got together to discuss the way forward on impunity and the safety of journalists. Professor Katharine Sarikakis made the opening statement together with Harlem Désir, the Representative of the Office for Freedom of Expression of the OSCE and Ambassador Florian Raunig of the Austrian Chair Task Force to the OSCE. The impressive line up of speakers included the sons of murdered Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
