Multiple awards for outstanding dissertations of our department

Once again, the Association of Austrian Newspapers (VÖZ) honored outstanding scientific work on the Austrian media market with the Media Research Award.

In the course of a festive award ceremony in the Audience Hall of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research on March 14, Jakob-Moritz Eberl received the Hannes Haas Young Talent Award worth € 2.000 for his dissertation titled "Media bias in political news coverage: Revisiting sources, effects and perceptions". At the Doc.Awards 2018 Jakob-Moritz was once again honored for his dissertation. This award ceremony took place on March 12.

Furthermore, Desirée Schmuck was also honored at the Doc.Awards 2018 for her dissertation entitled "Us against them: The effects of right-wing populist political advertising on intergroup attitudes" at the Doc.Awards 2018. The award includes prize money of € 1.500 and was granted by the University of Vienna together with the City of Vienna for outstanding dissertations.

Each year, the Bank Austria awards the Bank Austria Research Award for dissertations of high relevance, which deal with an innovative topic and can demonstrate practical relevance. This year's honor went to Brigitte Naderer for her dissertation on "The impact of product placements in children's movies: Content, effects, and protective measures". The festive presentation of the € 4.000 prize was held on March 12 as part of the festivities for the Dies Academicus at the University of Vienna.

Brigitte Naderer's dissertation was also honored internationally. She is going to receive the Top Dissertation Award ($ 250) from the Children, Adolescents and Media Division of the International Communication Association (ICA) during the upcoming annual conference in Prague, Czech Republic, on May 27, 2018.
