Baccalaureate- and Magister studies

The Website of the Study Programme Administration can be found here.

General Information

At the Department of Communication, students can work towards a baccalaureate or a Magister degree in Communication, an English-language Master degree in Communication Science or a doctorate in Social Sciences. The baccalaureate programme at the University of Vienna lasts for six semesters and is designed to provide academic preparation for a career in the field. The Magister programme is a further four semesters long and builds on the initial academic work carried out as part of the baccalaureate degree, as well as providing students with the opportunity to look at, study and tackle academic questions in greater depth.

Subject Tutorials

The courses provided by the academic staff are supplemented with subject tutorials during the introductory period. These tutorials take the form of exercises relating to the introductory lectures and are held by experienced and appropriately trained students for students. Further information on the subject tutorial project is available here.

Buddy-System

The buddy project for journalism students is targeted at students with German as a foreign language or as a second language, aiming to help them to integrate into and participate in the life of the University within the Department of Communication. Basically, therefore, the project was set up to support those students whose mother tongue is not German.
